3 Questions

What do you love most about your business?

I love being able to constantly create on my own time table. I don’t really have to get anything approved by anyone. I feel like the world is my oyster and I’m inspired every day so I love being able to share that inspiration with my following.

Tell us about the journey of how you built your business. How many years did it take you to get to where you are today?

I began my business seeking a creative outlet at a young age. But I was business savvy from the get-go and saw opportunity to fill not only a gap in my life but a gap in digital content. Each year was a specific chapter of pioneering an industry that wasn’t very concrete. Making leaps of faith to following my gut hoping to make it in the entertainment business. Each year I challenged myself trying new things like hosting, then writing, then acting, now entrepreneurial business endeavors. I know I’ll never be finished but so far since 2011 I’ve been grinding and the best is yet to come!

What words of advice can you give other women entrepreneurs?

If you want to start a business, make sure you are in love with the bigger picture of the community you serve. Like any romance, it will undoubtedly change as you do. If you want longevity, fall for the industry, not just the product or service. That way you’ll always have room to expand, different interests to pursue, and all the phases of your life will only serve to enrich your experience and diversify what you have to offer as time marches on.

Anything else you would like to share with our readers?

My advice is to always do something that’s true to you. It sounds cheesy but truly the only unique thing you have to offer this world is yourself and people notice and engage with authenticity. So if you have an idea for something you think will fulfill you and sincerely make you happy, I say 100% go for it. Besides that, work smarter not harder, do your research, surround yourself with good people, and at the end of the day, the only difference between you and the woman that made it is that she simply just never gave up. So keep going.

One thing is for sure: none of us expected 2020 to pan out quite like this. We’re writing to you from our home, where we’re hunkered down just like so many of you are. We are so thankful to be healthy, and we’re doing our best to laugh through the stress when we can, but this experience has been overwhelming in so many ways.
